About The Position

The Laundry Aide tends laundering machines to clean sheets, blankets, pillow coverings, and patients’ personal articles. The role includes loading laundry into washers and adding specified amounts of detergent or other cleaning agents; transferring clean, wet items through wringers and dryers for measured cycles; sorting dry articles by identification number or type; and folding items for storage. The Laundry Aide also handles, cleans, and delivers patient or resident laundry and helps maintain laundry equipment and work areas.

• On-the-job training is provided.

• Previous experience in healthcare laundering processes.

Responsibilities

• Fold and sort laundry, including blankets, sheets, towels, and personal clothing items.
• Hang clothes on racks according to names and numbers.
• Deliver patient or resident laundry to designated areas.
• Ensure patients’ or residents’ clothes are ready to wear, in good repair, and placed properly.
• Understand the functions of various soaps and bleaches.
• Follow MSDS precautions for all chemicals used.
• Wash and dry clothes and linens.
• Keep equipment clean and follow cleaning schedules.
• Maintain a clean, organized area, including sweeping and mopping the laundry area.
• Report needed repairs to the maintenance department.
• Operate large filters according to established schedules.
• Ensure proper handling of soiled laundry items.
• Clean and disinfect linen carts as required by policy and procedure.
• Empty washers and dryers as requested or necessary.
• Operate water, gas, and electric cutoff switches and valves.
• Understand the proper process for stain removal.
