About The Position

The Laundry Aide tends laundering machines to clean sheets, blankets, pillow coverings, and patients’ personal articles. The role includes loading washing machines and adding specified amounts of detergent or other cleaning agents; transferring clean, wet articles to wringers and dryers for measured cycles; sorting dry articles by identification number or type; and folding items for storage. The Laundry Aide also delivers resident laundry, maintains equipment and work areas, handles soiled laundry, and follows chemical safety precautions and established procedures.

• On-the-job training is provided.

• Previous experience in healthcare laundering processes.

Responsibilities

• Fold and sort laundry, including blankets, sheets, towels, and personal clothing items.
• Hang clothes on racks according to names and numbers.
• Deliver patient or resident laundry to designated areas.
• Ensure patients’ or residents’ clothes are ready to wear, in good repair, and put in the proper place.
• Understand the functions of various soaps and bleaches.
• Follow MSDS precautions for all chemicals used.
• Wash and dry clothes and linens.
• Keep equipment clean and follow cleaning schedules.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area; sweep and mop the laundry area.
• Report needed repairs to the maintenance department.
• Operate large filters according to established schedules.
• Ensure proper handling of soiled laundry items.
• Clean and disinfect linen carts as required by policy and procedure.
• Empty washers and dryers as requested or necessary.
• Operate water, gas, and electric cutoff switches and valves.
• Understand the proper process for stain removal.
