About The Position

The Laundry Aide tends laundering machines to clean sheets, blankets, pillow coverings, and patients’ personal articles. The role involves loading washers and adding specified amounts of detergent or other cleaning agents, transferring clean wet articles to a wringer and dryer for measured cycles, sorting dry items by identification number or type, and folding and storing items appropriately. The aide also handles and delivers patient or resident laundry, maintains laundry equipment and work areas, and follows established safety and cleaning procedures.

On-the-job training is provided.

High school degree preferred.
Previous experience in healthcare laundering processes.

Responsibilities

Fold and sort laundry, including blankets, sheets, towels, and personal clothing items.
Hang clothes on racks according to names and numbers.
Deliver patient or resident laundry to designated areas.
Ensure patients’ and residents’ clothes are ready to wear, in good repair, and placed in the proper location.
Understand the functions of various soaps and bleaches.
Follow precautions stated on the MSDS for chemicals used.
Wash and dry clothes and linens.
Keep equipment clean and follow cleaning schedules.
Maintain a clean, organized area, including sweeping and mopping the laundry area.
Report needed repairs to the maintenance department.
Operate large filters according to established schedules.
Ensure proper handling of soiled laundry items.
Clean and disinfect linen carts as required by policy and procedure.
Empty washers and dryers as requested or necessary.
Operate water, gas, and electric cutoff switches and valves.
Understand the proper process for stain removal.
