About The Position

The Laundry Aide tends laundering machines to clean sheets, blankets, pillow coverings, and patients’ personal articles. The role involves loading washers and adding specified amounts of detergent or other cleaning agents, transferring wet items to wringers and dryers for measured cycles, sorting dry items by identification number or type, and folding and placing items in appropriate storage bins. The Laundry Aide also handles delivery and care of patient or resident laundry, maintains laundry equipment and work areas, and follows established procedures for chemicals, soiled laundry, and stain removal.

Requirements

• On-the-job training is provided.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in healthcare laundering processes preferred.

Responsibilities

• Folds and sorts laundry, including blankets, sheets, and towels, as well as personal clothing items.
• Hangs clothes on racks according to names and numbers.
• Delivers patient or resident laundry to designated areas.
• Ensures patients’ or residents’ clothes are ready to wear, in good repair, and placed appropriately.
• Understands the functions of various soaps and bleaches.
• Follows precautions stated on MSDS for chemicals used.
• Washes and dries clothes and linens.
• Keeps equipment clean and follows cleaning schedules.
• Maintains a clean and organized area, including sweeping and mopping the laundry area.
• Reports needed repairs to the maintenance department.
• Operates large filters according to established schedules.
• Ensures proper handling of soiled laundry items.
• Cleans and disinfects linen carts as required by policy and procedure.
• Empties washers and dryers as requested or necessary.
• Operates water, gas, and electric cutoff switches and valves.
• Understands the proper process for stain removal.
• Loads articles into washers, adds specified amounts of detergent or other cleaning agents, transfers wet articles to wringers and dryers for measured cycles, and sorts and stores dry articles.
