About The Position

This application is for Spring 2027 hiring only. CTL Student Learning Assistance serves UNM students enrolled in undergraduate classes, with a mission to enrich the academic climate at UNM and create lifelong learners.

Language tutors support UNM students learning languages. Tutors are native users or advanced learners of the language they support, and help students understand language material, develop language production skills (speaking, signing, and writing), strengthen reception skills (listening, reading, and comprehending), and address challenges in language learning. Tutors attend weekly or biweekly training focused on language content and tutoring practices.

The program is seeking applicants who can support Russian, Portuguese, or Linguistics. Applicants must submit a recommendation from a professor or instructor who can speak to their strengths in the language for which they are applying.

Requirements

• Be a native user or advanced language learner of the target language.
• Submit a recommendation from a professor or instructor who can speak to strengths in the language being applied for.

• Availability to work Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

• Successful completion of college-level courses in the language program to be supported.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate student learning by helping students understand their learning process and modeling metacognitive strategies in language acquisition.
• Provide language support through one-on-one consultations, including in-person, online, and asynchronous or email support.
• Plan and conduct conversation group sessions for small-group language learning and practice.
• Serve as a liaison between language departments and CTL language services.
• Participate actively in the CTL training program and professional development opportunities.
• Create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment.
• Perform administrative responsibilities according to CTL and UNM guidelines.
