About The Position

This application is for Spring 2027 hiring. CTL Student Learning Assistance serves UNM students enrolled in undergraduate classes, with a mission to enrich the academic climate at UNM and create lifelong learners. Foundational Math Tutors support students enrolled in FYEX 1010 and Math 1215. Tutors are more advanced math learners who are familiar with the mathematics taught in these classes and know ways to support math learners. As members of the CTL team, tutors attend semester-long training focused on becoming effective facilitators of student learning.

Requirements

• Be a more advanced math learner familiar with the math taught in FYEX 1010 and Math 1215.
• Be compassionate, empathetic, intentional, adaptable, attentive to detail, encouraging, and strengths-based.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with the course instructor to provide customized support for students.
• Facilitate student learning by helping students understand their learning process, redirecting questions, and modeling metacognitive strategies.
• Help students develop transferable academic skills and best practices for success in foundational math courses.
• Create a welcoming and inclusive environment.
• Understand and provide guidance in navigating foundational math courses.
• Participate in the CTL training program and professional development opportunities.
