About The Position

The Laborer assists journeyman trades with highway structure and roadway demolition and construction. Duties include site preparation, earthwork, trenching, debris removal, and supporting asphalt paving, concrete placement, form fabrication, and traffic control. The role uses hand tools, power tools, and handheld equipment such as jackhammers and earth tampers. Laborers may work with various construction crews and travel frequently to accommodate project schedules. This is a safety-sensitive position involving work around live traffic and active heavy equipment and machinery. The role requires the ability to work days or nights and flexible hours.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are often required.
• Ability to understand and follow traffic control plans and safety procedures.
• Strong communication skills to interact with drivers, coworkers, and supervisors.
• Basic knowledge of road construction safety practices and traffic laws.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift equipment, and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Ability to remain alert, attentive, and focused in a high-risk environment.
• Dependability and punctuality.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and overtime.
• Ability to work around live traffic and active heavy equipment and machinery.

Responsibilities

• Assist journeyman trades with highway and roadway construction and demolition.
• Perform site preparation, earthwork, trenching, and debris removal.
• Carry materials weighing up to 60 pounds and climb ladders and scaffolding.
• Use hand tools, power tools, and handheld equipment such as jackhammers and earth tampers.
• Support asphalt paving, concrete placement, and form fabrication.
• Help set up traffic control and follow safety procedures.
• Travel frequently to various project sites and work flexible hours.
