About The Position

Barton County Feeders in Ellinwood, Kansas, is hiring a full-time yard maintenance laborer. The role participates in general yard maintenance and repair and may operate heavy equipment to level, shape, or distribute dirt and other materials inside and outside feed yard pens. The laborer also assists the feed department by driving a feed truck every other weekend. The position requires satisfactory performance of the essential duties and compliance with OSHA and other safety procedures, rules, and regulations. The successful candidate must pass post-offer employment testing. Competitive wages commensurate with experience and a benefit package are offered.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED, or one to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and recognize similarities and differences between words and series of numbers.
Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply and divide with tens and hundreds, including using American units of weight, volume, and distance.
Ability to use common-sense understanding to follow detailed but uncomplicated written or oral instructions and address problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Must be able to perform the essential duties satisfactorily, with reasonable accommodations where applicable.
Must pass post-offer employment testing.

Responsibilities

Perform general yard maintenance and repairs.
Operate and maintain heavy equipment.
Pull or relocate fencing and install new pen fencing.
Drain and clean water tanks.
Set out or apply insecticides or pesticides under the direction of a licensed private applicator.
Clean and repair feed bunks; this may require heavy equipment training.
Dig trenches and install water lines.
Perform hot work, including welding and fabrication.
Operate and maintain sprinkler and dewatering systems.
Perform farm maintenance, including windmill maintenance.
Operate the cement plant.
Remove dead animals from pens and take them to a designated area.
Perform electrical maintenance.
Maintain general yard and building housekeeping.
Drive a feed truck for the feed department every other weekend.
Comply with OSHA and other safety procedures, rules, and regulations.
