About The Position

The Laborer assists the Foreman and skilled craft workers with assigned duties under close supervision. This is usually an entry-level position and a first step toward learning a trade. The work involves supporting heavy civil construction activities, including earthwork, handling materials and tools, concrete and asphalt work, pipe installation, and routine machine-related tasks. The position involves work at and around the Jacksonville airport and requires successfully passing a security background check and having a clear Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

Requirements

• Valid driver's license.
• Must be able to drive.
• Must successfully complete and pass a background check for security clearance.
• Must have a clear Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• Able to perform strenuous, heavy physical activity of a primarily productive/technical nature.
• Sufficient manual dexterity to reach and handle items, work with fingers, and perceive attributes of objects and materials.

Responsibilities

• Dig, spread, and level dirt, sand, and gravel using a pick, shovel, or rake.
• Lift, carry, and hold construction materials, tools, and supplies.
• Clean tools, equipment, materials, and the work area.
• Mix, pour, and spread concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other materials using hand tools.
• Join, wrap, and seal sections of pipe.
• Perform routine non-machine tasks, including removing forms, filling excavations, placing pipe sections in trenches, and assembling pipe sections.
• Perform machine-related tasks such as tamping soil and jackhammering, and assist with pipe fusing.
• Comply with safety policies, practices, and procedures, and report unsafe activities to a supervisor and/or Human Resources.
• Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
• Provide leadership by example and share knowledge and skills.
• Drive as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
