About The Position

This position performs as a first-line supervisor in a structured organization with responsibility for directing other professional and technical employees in the Mycobacteriology/Mycology/TB Genotyping Unit. This position, under general supervision, works within general methods and procedures and with considerable independent judgment to adapt and apply guidelines to specific situations. This position requires a thorough knowledge of methods and techniques used in medical microbiology and knowledge of supervisory techniques and personnel policies and procedures. The employee performs functions such as approving leave, performing service ratings, counseling employees, participating in employee grievance procedures and the firing and training of personnel.

Requirements

Possession of a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, forensic science, biology, microbiology, or a related pure or applied science.
Five years of experience equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist or Microbiologist, including three years equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist P11 or Microbiologist P11, two years equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist 12 or Microbiologist 12, or one year equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist Specialist 13, Microbiologist Specialist 13, or Laboratory Scientist Manager 13.
Thorough knowledge of methods and techniques used in medical microbiology.
Knowledge of supervisory techniques and personnel policies and procedures.
