About The Position

This position functions as a senior level Laboratory Scientist performing a full range of complex testing assignments involving the analysis of human specimens and biological samples for a wide range of environmental and industrial contaminants. In addition to performing sample preparation, sample extraction/cleanup, and quantitative analysis involving a variety of laboratory instrumentation and equipment including ICP-MS; LC-ICP-MS; GC-ICP-MS, the senior level scientist develops and modifies the production methods and develops new methods requiring literature research, evaluation of the feasibility of approach for this laboratory and conducts the initial experiments to develop a production analytical method from published experimental methods. The Scientist assures that accurate data is obtained and reported in a timely manner to the appropriate programs and reviews approved data through the current laboratory information management system (LIMS). Maintaining quality control statistical data for the methods associated with environmental and industrial contaminants to ensure reliability of the analyses is also required. The senior level scientist leads method evaluation, development, validation of methods and documentation of laboratory methods in terms of written laboratory procedures, practices and policies as they relate to the Clinical Inorganic Unit. The Laboratory Scientist maintains accurate and up- to-date records of all work performed as well as prepares reports of laboratory findings.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, microbiology, forensic science, or a related pure or applied science.
  • Two years of professional experience carrying out a variety of tests, analyses, or production and research activities involving chemical, biochemical and biological samples, specimens, and products equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist, including one year equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist 10.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation and a criminal records check.
