About The Position

This position has the primary responsibility of performing molecular testing on samples from the state of Michigan using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS). At the entry level, this scientist position utilizes Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) for bacterial, fungal, viral, and parasitic pathogens of interest. This scientist utilizes hybrid capture, amplicon, metagenomics, and whole genome sequencing approaches to generate sequencing data. This sequencing technology is used for epidemiological outbreak tracing of said pathogens necessary to keep the citizens of Michigan safe.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, microbiology, forensic science, or a related pure or applied science.
  • One year of professional experience carrying out a variety of tests, analyses, or production and research activities involving chemical, biochemical and biological samples, specimens, and products equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist 9.
  • Two years of professional experience carrying out a variety of tests, analyses, or production and research activities involving chemical, biochemical and biological samples, specimens, and products equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist, including one year equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist 10.

Responsibilities

  • Performing molecular testing on samples from the state of Michigan using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
  • Utilizing Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) for bacterial, fungal, viral, and parasitic pathogens of interest.
  • Utilizing hybrid capture, amplicon, metagenomics, and whole genome sequencing approaches to generate sequencing data.
  • Using sequencing technology for epidemiological outbreak tracing of pathogens.
