About The Position

St. Luke's Health System is hiring a full-time Laboratory Assistant for the Magic Valley Laboratory team at St. Luke's Magic Valley Hospital. The role is responsible for pre-analytical processing of laboratory specimens and/or procuring and preparing specimens for testing. It also involves performing simple tasks and tests under direct supervision. The position has rotating 8-hour shifts with variable start times of 9 a.m., 10 a.m., or 11 a.m. Weekend work rotates, approximately one weekend every four weeks.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
No prior experience required.

Responsibilities

Transcribe laboratory testing orders efficiently and accurately.
Ensure specimens are properly identified, labeled, collected, and stored.
Perform basic specimen processing.
Distribute or track specimens to the appropriate laboratory areas for testing.
Explain collection procedures and provide patient instructions to support accurate specimen collection or preparation, promote patient and caregiver understanding, and reduce patient anxiety.
Handle basic patient complications and escalate patient concerns to leadership.
Comply with personal protective equipment requirements to protect against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids.
Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
May register patients or provide courier services.
Perform other duties as assigned.
