Lab Technician I - 2nd Shift
About The Position
Vitalant is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support its life-saving mission by performing laboratory work involving blood component production, labeling, record review, and data entry. The role includes preparing and handling blood components and ensuring products meet quality, volume, appearance, and timing requirements. The position is based at 1524 West 14th Street #120, Tempe, AZ 85281. The regular schedule is Monday through Friday with rotating weekends, 6:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Training may take place Monday through Friday, 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.; Tuesday through Saturday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; or Sunday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The hourly rate is $18.27–$18.67, depending on experience. Shift differentials are listed as 9% for second shift (3:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m.) and 8% for weekends; a third-shift differential is also referenced, but its rate is not specified.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- No prior experience required.
- Ability to stand for long periods, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Detail-oriented, with strong communication, organization, and analytical skills.
- Ability to maintain donor, patient, and employee confidentiality.
- Basic keyboarding skills and ability to handle and operate laboratory equipment.
- Ability to work flexible shifts and overtime when necessary.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate data records and documentation.
- Prepare blood components through processes including centrifugation, separation, freezing, thawing, washing, storage, sterile docking, transformation, and filtration.
- Ensure product quality, volume, appearance, and time requirements.
- Label routine and special components and implement quarantine procedures.
- Review records and enter data as part of laboratory operations.
