About The Position

Under the direction of the Technical Supervisor or designee (Tech Specialist or Charge Tech), the Lab Tech performs a variety of clinical laboratory testing and quality control activities in designated areas of assignment. The role includes routine and highly complex laboratory analysis for neonatal, pediatric, adult, and/or geriatric patients as needed, and specimen collection by venipuncture as required. The position is scheduled for 40 hours per week on the first shift and may be assigned Charge Tech duties for off-shifts and weekends.

Requirements

Minimum of one to three years of experience as a laboratory technician or technologist in a hospital setting.
Associate degree in a chemical, biological, or physical science, or medical technology training with at least one year of laboratory training or experience.
Meet training requirements for high-complexity testing under 42 CFR Section 493.1489 or 493.1491.
MLT or MT (ASCP), CLT (NCA), or equivalent certification.
Ability to communicate effectively with all age levels served within the position's scope and assigned areas.
Ability to perform essential job functions without posing a direct threat to personal or workplace health and safety, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

Perform clinical laboratory testing and quality control activities in assigned areas.
Perform routine and highly complex laboratory analyses for patients across age groups as needed.
Collect specimens by venipuncture as required.
Recognize problems, identify causes, evaluate alternatives, and apply solutions.
Confirm and verify results using knowledge of laboratory techniques, principles, and instrumentation.
May serve as Charge Tech for off-shifts and weekends.
