About The Position

To aid in patient diagnosis and treatment, the MLT/MT performs accurate tests and procedures on patient specimens. The role performs laboratory testing and procedures according to standard procedures and techniques, maintains operational knowledge of laboratory equipment and systems, contributes to quality management, and supports training and evaluation of students, residents, and new employees. The position also demonstrates proper phlebotomy, patient identification, specimen labeling, and specimen processing, and assists with the evaluation, implementation, and maintenance of tests and procedures.

Requirements

For MLT ASCP Eligible: Associate degree in Medical Technology and MLT (ASCP) or HHS eligibility.
For MLT ASCP: Associate degree in Medical Technology and MLT (ASCP) required.
For MLT HEW: Associate degree in Medical Technology and MLT HEW required.
For MT ASCP Eligible: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, MT (ASCP) eligibility, and HHS certification.
For MT ASCP: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology and MT (ASCP) registry or another nationally recognized registry.

Responsibilities

Perform tests and procedures according to standard laboratory procedures and techniques, producing accurate results.
Maintain operational knowledge of laboratory mechanical and electrical equipment, including the ability to operate the Lab Interface System.
Participate in the laboratory quality management system’s quality improvement requirements.
Ensure quality control and calibration criteria are met.
Attain required continuing education credits annually.
Teach, train, and evaluate students, residents, and new employees at the bench.
Demonstrate proper phlebotomy technique, patient identification, sample labeling, and specimen processing.
Assist with test and procedure evaluation, implementation, and maintenance, and help implement changes.
