About The Position

This position performs venipunctures, heel sticks, and finger sticks to obtain blood samples for testing purposes. The role involves properly identifying patients and following procedures for collection of specimens. The Lab Assistant will process and receive specimens into the laboratory, adhering to protocol for specimen acceptability and rejection. They will also enter outpatient orders into the Laboratory Information System, collect chain of custody drug screens, and assist with frozen sections and clerical duties as needed. Other related functions may be assigned.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or GED
• Must provide documented evidence to perform waived testing.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
• Moderate knowledge of medical terminology
• Current BLS certification

Nice To Haves

• Completion of a formal training course in phlebotomy procedures from an accredited school or training program preferred.
• One year phlebotomy experience including obtaining specimens from neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients is preferred.

Responsibilities
