About The Position

The Lab Assistant I supports laboratory operations by preparing, receiving, delivering, organizing, and shipping specimens and maintaining lab inventory and work areas. The role enters patient information into the Laboratory Inventory Management System (LIMS), assists with cleaning laboratory equipment and benches, and follows established methods, training requirements, and departmental expectations. The position works with protected health information (PHI) in paper and electronic formats and uses related technologies to perform its duties. The assistant escalates issues to the lead or supervisor and participates in continuous improvement projects.

Responsibilities

• Assist licensed or certified staff in preparing specimens, such as blood tubes and tissue, for testing.
• Receive and deliver specimens to appropriate workflows or laboratories.
• Organize samples through physical and electronic storage and disposal.
• Accurately enter patient data into the Laboratory Inventory Management System (LIMS).
• Prepare samples for shipment.
• Maintain organization of laboratory inventory, materials, and supplies.
• Assist with cleaning laboratory equipment and benches.
• Maintain current knowledge of methods pertaining to the role.
• Complete training and other deadlines on time and maintain current status on Natera training requirements.
• Recognize and escalate issues to the lead or supervisor.
• Participate in Continuous Improvement Projects (TAG, 5S).
• Conduct oneself professionally and adhere to departmental expectations.
• Handle PHI in paper and electronic form and use technologies to access it as needed for the job.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
