About The Position

The Lab Assistant I assists licensed and certified staff with specimen preparation and laboratory workflows. The role handles specimens, patient data, inventory, equipment and benches, and supports shipment preparation and sample storage or disposal. The assistant is expected to keep current with role-specific methods and required training, meet deadlines, escalate issues, participate in continuous improvement projects, and conduct themselves professionally while following departmental expectations. The position regularly involves protected health information (PHI) in paper and electronic form and access to technologies used to handle that information. Natera is a global leader in cell-free DNA testing focused on oncology, women’s health and organ health.

Responsibilities

• Assist licensed or certified staff in preparing specimens, such as blood tubes and tissue, for testing.
• Receive and deliver specimens to appropriate workflows and/or laboratories.
• Organize samples for physical and electronic storage and/or disposal.
• Accurately enter patient data into the Laboratory Inventory Management System (LIMS).
• Prepare samples for shipment.
• Maintain organization of laboratory inventory, materials and supplies.
• Assist with cleaning laboratory equipment and benches.
• Maintain current knowledge of methods pertaining to the role.
• Complete training and other deadlines on time.
• Recognize and escalate issues to the lead or supervisor.
• Participate in continuous improvement projects, including TAG and 5S.
• Conduct oneself professionally and adhere to departmental expectations.
• Maintain current status on Natera training requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Handle PHI in paper and electronic form and use technologies to access it as needed for the job.
