About The Position

Schweiger is a leading dermatology practice with a significant national presence. We are seeking a Full-Time Lab Aide for our CA Pathology office. This role is crucial for supporting the laboratory operations by handling the intake of specimens and performing administrative duties. The Lab Aide will not be involved in technical laboratory procedures. A strong commitment to compliance and safety is expected, with adherence to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) demonstrating attention to detail, accuracy, and professionalism.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED minimum required
• Must be computer savvy and familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
• Six months experience in a similar role
• Training and post-training assessment for all role-applicable SOPs and Laboratory Compliance workflows must be completed after hire but before any laboratory work can be completed independently
• Competency assessment will occur one month before independent work is permitted

Responsibilities

• Receive laboratory specimen from courier
• Review specimen for proper labeling and acceptability
• Resolve specimen labeling discrepancies according to SOP
• Sort specimen into cases to be processed in house and cases to be sent to other laboratories based on insurance, provider preference, or case type
• Pre-accession and accession all specimen
• Transport specimens and other materials between suites in a HIPAA compliant and safe manner, managing any spills or incidents per SOP
• Enter grossing information received from Grossing Technician into LIS
• Prepare cases to be sent to reference laboratories and confirm daily pickup
• Dispose of biohazard and hazardous waste in accordance with policy and regulations
• Maintain a safe, clean work environment
• Observe blood-borne pathogens policy and proper personal protective equipment
• Adhere to all company and laboratory specific SOPs and complete quality control (QC) logs as required
