About The Position

The Laboratory Aide provides support to the laboratory department, including ordering, receiving, and distributing laboratory materials. The position has access to confidential financial and patient information but does not provide patient care or have access to funds. Duties vary by assigned laboratory area. Histology Lab Assistants rotate duties weekly as assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

Manage inventory for assigned departments, organize and maintain the storeroom, keep ordering and receiving records, and develop and maintain accurate PAR levels.
Round hourly to retrieve specimens and deliver them to appropriate departments; document quality assurance information for rejected specimens; load and unload specimens manually; store specimens manually off-line; and assist with inventory as needed.
Set up specimens daily in Microbiology; perform delegated instrument maintenance, temperature monitoring, and bench cleaning; complete monthly DI water spore checks; replenish and discard CO2 tanks; perform waived instrument testing; and process TB specimens.
Accession specimens; print and distribute specimen cassettes; file slides and cassettes; assist Pathologists with procedures; change tissue processor and stainer fluids; dispose of waste; and monitor morgue temperature and negative pressure.
Rotate Histology Lab Assistant duties weekly as assigned.
