About The Position

The Laboratory Aide supports the laboratory department, including ordering, receiving, and distributing laboratory materials. The role has access to confidential financial and patient information but does not involve patient care or access to funds. Duties may vary across inventory, core laboratory, microbiology, and histology/pathology assignments. Histology Lab Assistants rotate job duties weekly as assigned. The position is full-time, Monday through Friday, on days at Adena’s Main Lab in Chillicothe.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

Manage inventory for assigned departments, organize and maintain the storeroom, keep accurate ordering and receiving records, and develop and maintain accurate inventory PAR levels.
Retrieve specimens during hourly rounds and deliver them to the appropriate departments.
Document quality assurance information for rejected specimens.
Manually load and unload specimens on instruments and store specimens manually off-line.
Assist with inventory when needed.
Set up daily specimens in microbiology and perform delegated instrument maintenance, temperature monitoring, and bench cleaning.
Perform monthly DI water spore checks, replenish and discard CO2 tanks, conduct waived instrument testing, and process TB specimens.
Accession histology/pathology specimens, print and distribute specimen cassettes, and file slides and cassettes.
Assist Pathologists with procedures, change tissue processor and stainer fluids, and dispose of waste.
Monitor morgue temperature and negative pressure.
Rotate histology lab duties weekly as assigned.
