The Kettle Worker rings bells at assigned locations as part of The Salvation Army’s Christmas fundraising efforts. As a first point of public contact for the fundraising campaign, the worker is expected to provide courteous, friendly, and professional customer service. Duties include welcoming donors, collecting monetary donations, answering questions or directing the public to an appropriate Salvation Army representative, and following instructions from the Kettle Coordinator and The Salvation Army. The worker must keep the kettle attended except during authorized breaks at a secure location, wear and return provided identification, and complete and submit a daily time card. The position involves outdoor work in changing weather and may include exposure to noise, dust, and dirt. It requires standing or sitting in one location for extended periods, frequent changes between standing and walking, repetitive bell ringing, and lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling light objects weighing less than 25 pounds. Workers have regular in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds, including people who may be angry, confused, or frustrated. Irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, are required. Regular and punctual attendance is essential. The selected candidate must pass a criminal history information check; a conviction does not automatically preclude employment. The Salvation Army dress code applies, and the position’s dress code will be provided at employment or orientation.
