Kennel Attendant
About The Position
The Kennel Attendant cares for and attends to animals. The role includes feeding and watering animals, cleaning and disinfecting animal spaces and equipment, assisting members of the public with questions and the adoption process, and examining animals for signs of illness. The attendant also transfers animals between quarters, records information as instructed, and performs related duties as required. The position requires working with animals, including unpredictable animals, and communicating effectively with the public and coworkers. Physical duties include lifting and carrying items and animals, walking or standing throughout the shift, climbing, bending, kneeling, and pushing or pulling.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school or equivalent, plus one additional year of experience attending to animals, or a combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
- Valid current driver's license.
- Physical exam required.
- Ability to work with animals and handle unpredictable animals.
- Ability to deal effectively with the public.
- Ability to operate a catch pole, hose, squeegee, mop, and broom.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others.
Responsibilities
- Feed and water animals as needed.
- Clean and disinfect cages, pens, and yards, and sterilize equipment.
- Keep workspaces tidy and free of debris.
- Help citizens with questions and concerns and with the adoption process.
- Examine animals for signs of illness and note findings on the vet list.
- Transfer animals between quarters.
- Record information according to instructions.
- Perform related duties as required.
