About The Position

This position is responsible for feeding and caring for animals and cleaning animal kennels. Work is performed in accordance with established policies and procedures and the Borough’s core values: Accountability, Customer Focus, Dedication, Integrity, Responsiveness, and Teamwork. Pay Grade D1 - DOE.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Less than one year of experience. Relevant experience may include animal handling or animal care, custodial duties, interpersonal skills, teamwork, problem solving, and following safety protocols.
• Successfully pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen, and physical.
• Complete a baseline audiometry screening and undergo annual testing as part of the Animal Shelter’s Hearing Conservation Program.
• Complete the Rabies vaccination series and maintain a current Tetanus (Td or Tdap) vaccination, or provide signed declinations, in accordance with applicable health and safety guidelines.
• Possess a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
• If assigned driving duties or responsibilities, be at least 19 years old and have one year of driving experience.

Responsibilities

• Handle and restrain animals safely.
• Monitor and report animal health or behavior concerns.
• Feed and water shelter animals.
• Clean and disinfect kennels.
• Perform related duties.
