About The Position

The K-8 Tutor supports elementary and middle school students in Carlsbad across core subjects, including math, reading/ELA, writing, and study skills. This is an in-person tutoring role with flexible hours, suited to people such as teachers, substitute teachers, education majors, student teachers, experienced tutors, or others interested in supporting younger learners. Tutors provide personalized one-on-one instruction, help students develop academic skills and confidence, and communicate progress with families and the office. A minimum three-month commitment is required.

Requirements

• Strong foundation in core K-8 subjects, such as math, reading/ELA, or writing.
• Reliable transportation for in-home sessions in Carlsbad and surrounding areas.
• Professional, punctual, and dependable work habits.
• Minimum three-month commitment.

Nice To Haves

• Prior tutoring or teaching experience with elementary or middle school students.
• After-school availability, typically 3–7 p.m.; daytime availability is also a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree or current enrollment in an education-related program.

Responsibilities

• Provide personalized, one-on-one tutoring for students in grades K-8.
• Tailor instruction to each student's learning style, needs, and goals.
• Support homework help, reading and math fundamentals, test preparation, and academic organization.
• Build foundational skills and encourage a positive, confident mindset toward learning.
• Submit session notes and communicate progress with families and the office.
