About The Position

The Family Support Coordinator builds positive working relationships with families under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court, Dependency Division in order to support, teach, and enable the parent/guardian to utilize more effective parenting behaviors, maintain sobriety and pursue reunification with their children. Under general supervision, performs senior-level treatment programming duties and provides leadership in the design and delivery of youth and family skill-building programs. Develops and facilitates structured programming and educational groups that support prosocial development, family engagement, and behavioral change. Utilizes evidence-based practices, including family-centered and cognitive behavioral approaches. May mentor staff, interns, or volunteers and assist in coordinating program implementation. Performs related work as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, sociology, or similar field of study and two years of experience working with juveniles in a residential setting OR any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Must obtain First aid/CPR certification by date of hire and maintain it throughout employment
  • Must submit to background check prior to hire.
  • Persons convicted of a felony are not eligible for hire within the Juvenile facility.
  • Forty hours of orientation training are required within first month on the job.
  • Sixteen additional hours of COJET certified training are required each year.
  • Must obtain an Arizona driver's license by date of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
  • Final job offer will be contingent upon a satisfactory 5-year Arizona Motor Vehicle Report.
  • Knowledge of: Advanced practices related to youth development, prosocial skill-building, and family engagement
  • Evidence-based intervention models, including family-centered and cognitive behavioral approaches
  • Group facilitation techniques and structured program development
  • Juvenile court procedures, probation operations, and alternatives-to-detention programming
  • Community resources and multidisciplinary service systems supporting youth and families
  • Skill in: Designing and facilitating structured youth and family programming
  • Leading educational groups and skill-building sessions
  • Coordinating services across probation, court staff, and community agencies
  • Mentoring staff, interns, or volunteers in program implementation
  • Evaluating program effectiveness and adjusting programming to meet youth and family needs
  • Ability to: Provide leadership in the delivery and implementation of youth and family programming
  • Facilitate group-based learning and skill development activities
  • Develop collaborative partnerships with community agencies and service providers
  • Support program coordination and implementation within the division
  • Communicate effectively with court staff, families, and community partners
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records in JOLTS

  • Knowledge and/or experience in: dependency/child welfare systems, experience developing community connections.
  • Experience and skill in providing services for families and youth
  • Knowledge and understanding of the dependency system for families involved with the Department of Child Safety
  • Supporting, mentoring, and coaching parents/guardians of youth in a behavior health or social services environment
  • Working with individuals who have histories of trauma, mental health, substance abuse, under employment, and/or involvement in the juvenile and criminal justice systems
  • Coordinating programs and services with other service providers

Responsibilities

  • Works as a member of the Dependency Division under Coconino County Juvenile Court
  • Applies Family Centered Practices that support and empower parents/guardians involved with the Department of Child Safety, build positive working relationships with parents, and utilize strength-based principals and actions
  • Acts as a Community Coordinator for Safe Babies Court for up to 20 cases which includes facilitating Family Team Meetings on a monthly basis, supporting parents throughout the dependency case, providing kinship and foster placement support, attend and providing updates for court hearings, case plan staffings, and Team Decision Making meetings.
  • Provides Family Time Visit Coaching services, teaching parenting skills utilizing evidence-based or promising practice models, conduct Reviews of Progress and Parent Action Item forms, implement other services as assigned
  • Provides back-up mediation and facilitation for dependency cases
  • Must be willing to travel within the State of Arizona as needed
  • Driving; standing and walking to supervise detainees; working with and around co-workers, juveniles and the public; dealing with interruptions; vision acuity near and far, hearing and speech for communicating with juveniles, staff and the public.
