Junior Technician, Data Center Operations
About The Position
The Junior Data Center Technician ensures activities in Data Center and Access Centers comply with data center procedures and industry best practices. The role performs routine data center operations, focusing on learning and administering current procedures. The technician conducts quality assurance in data center halls and access centers, performs daily visual inspections of IT equipment, escorts vendors and COLO customers, supports storage tape removal and pickup, and controls data center stock. Tasks must follow Change Control rules and be supported as documented by the requester. The technician also assists Data Center Engineers in gathering information for work orders.
Requirements
- Basic computer hardware knowledge.
- 0 to 1 years' experience working in data center environments.
- Good understanding of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to perform in a high-paced work environment, apply problem-solving techniques, communicate issues and results to co-workers, and escalate issues to immediate management.
- Ability to work well with others in a team environment, including as a member of a self-managed work team, in rotational assignments, or on a project team.
- Willingness to learn.
- Effective written and verbal communication at all levels.
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
- Support storage tape removal and pickup.
- Provide escorted access for vendors and COLO customers.
- Carry out daily checks to ensure security and access policies are followed and data center cleanliness is maintained.
- Carry out quality assurance in data center halls and access centers.
- Control data center stocks, including copper and fiber patch cables, fiber cleaning accessories, and cable labels, and report appropriately.
- Perform daily visual inspections of IT equipment.
- Ensure appropriate tasks follow Change Control rules and support tasks as documented by the requester.
- Assist Data Center Engineers in gathering information for work orders.
