The Vermont Department of Labor is seeking a compassionate, resourceful, and customer-focused individual to join their team as a Job Center Specialist I (JCS I) in their Burlington office. As the first point of contact in the American Job Center, you will welcome customers, answer questions, and provide individualized one-on-one assistance to people from all backgrounds who are navigating employment transitions. This includes supporting unemployment insurance claimants and other job seekers with job searches, resume development, online applications, workforce system registration, and the use of computers and technology needed to find employment. The role requires the ability to listen, assess needs, and provide guidance to help individuals move toward employment. Success in this position requires excellent customer service, patience when teaching technology, and a commitment to ensuring every customer feels respected, supported, and connected to the resources they need. You will become knowledgeable about workforce programs, community organizations, supportive services, and local employers so you can make informed referrals and help customers overcome barriers to employment. In addition to providing direct customer assistance, you will greet visitors, manage reception responsibilities, maintain accurate customer records, and document services provided in department information systems. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to balance customer service with timely and accurate documentation are essential to success. Occasional travel throughout the Northwest Region may be required. Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and have access to reliable personal transportation.
