About The Position

Utah Division of Juvenile Justice and Youth Services (JJYS) provides a continuum of prevention, intervention, supervision and rehabilitation services and programs to youth offenders while assuring public safety. High risks in this job include physical intervention with clients in order to de-escalate hostile or volatile situations. Work requires physical exertion and requires the ability to stand, walk over rough surfaces, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.

Requirements

  • Availability to work rotating shifts, days, swings, graveyard, weekends and holidays.
  • Candidates 21 years of age or older
  • Candidates with a high school diploma or GED
  • A valid Utah Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with youth ordered into the care and custody of JJYS
  • Monitor visitors and residents within the facility
  • Schedule and coordinate activities for the youth
  • Assist Supervisors with perimeter checks
  • Resolve potentially dangerous situations to ensure the safety of staff, youth and or the public by applying appropriate intervention techniques to people, facilities and property
  • Transport Youth
  • Multi-tasking: Answering phones, scheduling visits, working the Control Board which opens doors for staff.
  • Communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely in writing (read and understand information presented in writing)
