About The Position

Performs a variety of cleaning tasks requiring light physical effort and the use of hand or lightweight powered cleaning equipment. Work includes cleaning restrooms, offices, storerooms, corridors, stairways, laundry rooms, and other assigned areas. The position also involves maintaining cleaning supplies and equipment, securing rooms as directed, and reporting maintenance issues to a supervisor.

The work is indoors in areas that normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation. The employee may be exposed to dirt and disagreeable odors, with a chance of cuts and bruises. Physical demands described include continual standing, bending, stooping, and reaching; occasional lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds; and, in a separate physical-requirements statement, occasional moderately heavy effort when working with ladders or scaffolds, frequent movement of objects weighing about 40 pounds, and occasional movement of objects over 50 pounds.

Requirements

• Six months of experience performing cleaning tasks using standard or janitorial cleaning tools or industrial-type cleaning equipment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain restrooms in a clean, orderly, and sanitary condition.
• Sweep, mop, scrub, and wax floors; clean, disinfect, and deodorize lavatories, urinals, and toilet bowls.
• Clean mirrors and water fountains; dust ledges and woodwork; replenish deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels, and soap.
• Report facility conditions requiring maintenance, including broken windows, water leaks, and clogged drains.
• Clean offices, storerooms, corridors, stairways, and other assigned areas.
• Operate lightweight cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, waxers, and polishers.
• Empty ashtrays and wastebaskets; dust, wax, and polish office furniture.
• Wash accessible walls, windows, blinds, and wall partitions without climbing ladders or scaffolds.
• Clean laundry rooms, washing machines, dryers, vending machines, and related areas; sweep and mop, empty nearby garbage bins, and clean doors and windows.
• Secure rooms as directed.
• Maintain stocks of cleaning materials and implements; notify the supervisor when supplies are needed or equipment needs repair or replacement.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
