The IT Technician I shall report to the Chief Information Officer/IT Technician II. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Provides customer service to college students, staff, faculty, and local patrons through onsite user assistance, one-on-one or via telephone help desk. Responds to questions from site and telephone customers regarding hardware and/or software issues/problems; troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains campus computers (PC and Macintosh), Smart Classrooms (includes PC tablets, projectors, audio/visual receivers, VCR/DVD combo, Creston control units); VOIP telephone equipment; and all peripherals (printers, copiers, scanners, cell phones, etc.). Confers with systems, technical, and programming personnel to resolve complex procedural or technical problems; operates supporting peripheral equipment as required and performs routine maintenance on computer hardware equipment; reviews printouts to ensure quality standards are met; performs minor networking troubleshooting from PC to network connectivity, such as servers, switchers, hubs, etc. Assists with identifying and locating reference materials for departmental acquisition; actively educates staff through a variety of media and communications such as website, written guidelines, helpful hints, and shortcuts. Assists with the development and/or recommendations for enhancing existing College computer capabilities and applications, future hardware and software application requirements, and campus-wide software standardization policies. Maintains familiarity and knowledge of all PC software applications currently being used across campus; performs minor personal computer peripheral hardware repairs; maintains small parts inventories necessary to make common repairs. Documents activities related to help desk inquiries and composes statistical reports summarizing overall activities; safeguards equipment and property following standard computer operations security procedures. May serve on various campus committees as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned or required. Nothing contained herein shall limit the President in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which he/she would be qualified in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College.
