About The Position

The IT Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and improving the company’s information technology systems. This position works collaboratively with other IT personnel and provides hands-on support for users, computers, servers, network equipment, software, phones, security systems, backups, and related technology. This position requires a broad, practical IT skill set, including the ability to support day-to-day systems and troubleshoot basic scripts, macros, SQL queries, reports, and automation tools used by the company. This is not a dedicated software-development position, but some scripting, programming, and database-query experience is required.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Three or more years of hands-on IT experience preferred, especially in a small to mid-size company environment.
  • Working knowledge of Windows desktop environments, Windows Server, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, user permissions, and common business applications.
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, network, printer, email, user-access, and general technical support issues.
  • Working knowledge of networking concepts and infrastructure, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalls, routers, switches, wireless networks, and cabling.
  • Ability to configure, maintain, and support physical and virtual servers, storage, operating systems, and related infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity, backup, and disaster-recovery practices, including endpoint protection, patching, access control, backup verification, and recovery concepts.
  • Practical scripting, programming, reporting, or database-query experience required, such as VBA, batch files, AutoHotkey, PowerShell, SQL, Python, or similar tools.
  • Ability to read, troubleshoot, modify, document, and create small practical scripts, macros, SQL queries, reports, and automation tools to support business operations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work in a self-directed, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SQL Server, ERP systems, manufacturing systems, or business-reporting tools preferred.
  • Basic PBX, VoIP, or phone-system experience preferred.
  • Experience working with third-party IT contractors, technology vendors, or service providers preferred.
  • Experience using AI tools responsibly to improve productivity, troubleshooting, documentation, reporting, or automation is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on technical support for company users, including PCs, laptops, printers, phones, mobile devices, software, access issues, and related peripherals.
  • Administer user accounts, permissions, email, file access, printers, shared resources, and other business technology systems.
  • Support Microsoft desktop, server, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and other common business application environments.
  • Maintain physical and virtual servers, storage, operating systems, and related infrastructure.
  • Maintain network infrastructure and connectivity, including routers, switches, firewalls, cabling, wireless access points, VPN access, and internet service.
  • Support cybersecurity, backup, and disaster-recovery practices, including access control, patching, endpoint protection, firewall support, backup verification, and recovery testing.
  • Support, troubleshoot, modify, create, and document practical internal tools, including scripts, macros, batch files, custom programs, SQL queries, reports, and other automation tools.
  • Work with departments to improve the practical use of technology, reduce repetitive work, and support business operations.
  • Train employees on hardware, software, security practices, and new technology as needed.
  • Monitor system and network performance, troubleshoot technical issues, and help maintain reliable and secure IT operations.
  • Support the company phone system and related communication systems.
  • Procure, configure, install, maintain, and track company computers, software, peripherals, and other IT assets.
  • Maintain IT documentation, software licenses, vendor contracts, warranties, equipment records, system procedures, and records of important system changes.
  • Work with third-party IT contractors, vendors, and service providers as needed.
  • Promote and contribute to a continuous improvement culture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
