About The Position

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for an IT Systems Engineer in our IT Department. This role manages computer systems on a day-to-day basis, focusing on security, reliability, backups, file management, system accounting, hardware maintenance, and software maintenance. The IT Systems Engineer provides both desktop and server support to ensure proper functioning of city systems. They will implement established network and security protocols, and suggest improvements. This position participates in Help Desk activities, serving as a technical consultant for staff regarding computer-related needs, including hardware, software, networking, and special system configurations. The role involves coordinating and installing computer hardware and software systems, evaluating vendors, and researching and recommending purchases of software, hardware, licenses, renewals, and updates. Additionally, the IT Systems Engineer will create and update documentation of City IT systems and procedures, attend seminars to stay informed about technology trends, and perform general administrative/office duties. Professionalism and exceptional customer service are expected in all interactions representing the City of Greer. Other appropriate duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Management, or other related field.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible IT engineering experience.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible Microsoft Server and VMWare administration experience.
  • VMWare ESX server experience.
  • Good problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to understand and analyze complex issues.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft server and client operating systems (Server 2016 & above, Windows 10 & 11).
  • Experienced in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of enterprise backup solutions (Veeam).
  • Basic TCP/IP troubleshooting knowledge.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory infrastructure and maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of Server & NAS/SAN configurations and architectures (RAID, iSCSI, SMB, ZFS).
  • General understanding of internet protocols including DNS, SMTP, IMAP and HTTP.
  • Experienced in the installation and troubleshooting of desktop client applications and antivirus solutions.
  • Knowledge of wireless products and their configuration.
  • General networking knowledge with switches, routers, TCP/IP, network management and analysis, and network security.

Responsibilities

  • Manages computer systems on a day-to-day basis as it pertains to security, reliability, backups, file management, system accounting, hardware maintenance, and software maintenance.
  • Provides both desktop and server support within the city to ensure their proper functioning.
  • Implements established network and security protocols; suggest changes and improvements to City’s network and security protocols.
  • Participates in Help Desk activities and serves as technical consultant for staff in determining computer-related needs including hardware and software, networking capability, and other special system configurations.
  • Coordinates and installs various types of computer hardware and software systems including evaluation of vendors along with various levels and types of hardware and software available.
  • Researches and recommends the purchase of software and hardware, licenses, renewals, and updates.
  • Creates/updates documentation of City IT systems and procedures.
  • Attends seminars to stay informed and updated with technology trends.
  • Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as billing invoices, Help Desk work orders, e-mail, city budget, expenditure reports, and job logs.
  • Performs general administrative/office duties as required, including typing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, answering the telephone, etc.
  • Ensures professionalism and exceptional customer service during all interactions while performing job representing the City of Greer.
  • Performs other appropriate duties as assigned.
