About The Position

Blackwave is hiring an onsite IT Systems Administrator for its Port San Antonio facility. The role owns day-to-day IT support and the user lifecycle, administers a dedicated U.S. Microsoft 365 tenant, supports endpoints and hardware, and designs and secures the site network. The administrator will build internal IT capabilities, reduce reliance on the managed service provider, and develop runbooks, standardized configurations, documentation, and automation.

The position also implements and maintains ITAR- and NIST 800-171-aligned controls, including access, segmentation, logging, and audit evidence. It will prepare IT for the site buildout and production ramp-up, including shop-floor systems and potential future OT environments, while coordinating asynchronously with the Digital Infrastructure team in Germany.

Expected outcomes include owning onsite support and the user lifecycle within 90 days; moving the MSP to an escalation role within six months; establishing ITAR and Technology Control Plan controls within six months; and delivering defined SLAs, patch compliance above 95%, tested backups, and an incident response playbook within 12 months. Site and shop-floor IT should be ready for production ramp-up by Q4 2027.

Requirements

• Experience in IT systems administration, MSP engineering, manufacturing or defense IT, or military IT.
• Experience working with or managing a managed service provider.
• Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Intune administration.
• Networking experience with firewalls, VLANs, WiFi, and VPN.
• Windows and Mac endpoint and hardware support experience.
• PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
• Willingness to complete a background check and, if required, a security clearance.
• Fluent English.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or otherwise authorized to access export-controlled information under ITAR.

Nice To Haves

• GCC High experience.
• Hands-on implementation of ITAR, NIST 800-171, or CMMC controls.
• AWS GovCloud or OT environment experience.
• Prior experience as the sole or first IT person at a site or company.
• Background in NewSpace, aerospace, defense, or advanced manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the onsite owner of IT support, taking tickets from intake through resolution.
• Administer Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Intune for a dedicated U.S. tenant.
• Design, operate, and secure the site network, including firewalls, VLANs, WiFi, and VPN.
• Deploy, manage, and support Windows and Mac endpoints and hardware.
• Implement and maintain ITAR- and NIST 800-171-aligned controls and keep audit evidence current.
• Manage the MSP relationship, hold the provider to agreed SLAs, and transfer ownership in-house.
• Write runbooks, standardize configurations, and automate recurring work with PowerShell.
• Plan IT for the site buildout and shop floor, including future OT environments.
• Coordinate asynchronously with the Digital Infrastructure team in Germany.
