About The Position

The IT Specialist works independently to provide technology support to all members of the organization. This role involves identifying and procuring hardware and software, installing components, providing technical support for voice and phone systems (including Sangoma and the Verizon system), loading appropriate software packages, and providing network and server administration and oversight, including monitoring security and backup protocols. The specialist assists in the customization and adaptation of existing programs, offers telephone, in-person, and online support to end-users, and coordinates activities with network services and information systems groups. Communication of updates, status, and completion information to managers and users is also a key part of the role. Additionally, the position requires referring major hardware problems to service personnel, connecting users to networks and providing initial training, administering email and anti-virus systems, rotating daily back-up media, coordinating with vendors for technology-related services, and assisting in the research and procurement of computer accessories and supplies.

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience in similar IT role
  • Some college or technical education
  • Knowledge of IT software, hardware, systems
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Strict attention to detail, maintaining high level of accuracy
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, able to meet deadlines
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining professional and effective relationships
  • Positive attitude, proactive mentality, responsive, and strong work ethic
  • Ability to obtain fingerprint clearance and pass a background check
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Identifies and procures the hardware and software needed to satisfy user requirements
  • Installs hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers and disk drives on users' premises
  • Provides technical support to users for voice and phone systems, including Sangoma and the Verizon system
  • Loads appropriate software packages such as operating systems, networking components and office applications
  • Provides network and server administration and oversight, including monitoring security and backup protocols
  • Assists in the customization and adaptation of existing programs to meet users' requirements
  • Provides telephone, in-person and online support to end-users
  • Coordinates activities with network services and information systems groups
  • Provides updates, status and completion information to manager and/or users, via voice mail, e-mail or in-person communication
  • Refers major hardware problems to service personnel for correction
  • Connects user to networks and provides initial training in facilities and applications
  • Administers email and anti-virus systems
  • Rotates daily back-up media
  • Coordinates with vendors for needed technology-related services such as printer/copier maintenance
  • Assists in research and procurement of computer accessories and supplies
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
