About The Position

The IT Security Intern will support FIT’s internal Security Services team by assisting with security assessments, audits, and documentation across FIT and client environments. This hands-on internship is designed to provide real-world experience in security operations, vulnerability management, and security controls. The intern will work closely with security analysts and leadership to help improve security posture, ensure consistency in audit practices, and deliver actionable security recommendations. This role is ideal for a student or early-career professional looking to build practical cybersecurity skills in a managed services environment. This role is 24-32 hours per week depending on workload and project deadlines.

Requirements

  • Organizational and time management skills with strong orientation to detail and ability to follow through on tasks
  • Initiative-taking and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organizational, communication (written & verbal) and people skills.
  • General understanding of firewalls, SIEM, AV, EDR/MDR, and IDS/IPS concepts.
  • Lab, internship, or academic experience related to cybersecurity, systems administration, or IT support.
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed coursework in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Foundational understanding of Microsoft 365, including Entra ID (Azure AD), MFA, and enterprise security concepts.
  • Basic knowledge of common security principles such as least privilege, identity security, and vulnerability management.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow defined audit and documentation processes.
  • Comfort working with documentation tools (e.g., IT documentation platforms, spreadsheets, checklists).
  • Professional, trustworthy demeanor and respect for sensitive client and internal data.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with vulnerability management implementation and validation across client environments, including reviewing findings and helping track remediation efforts.
  • Perform various audit activities (IAM, MFA, applications) to assess enforcement, coverage, and configuration consistency.
  • Document security findings and configurations using a documentation platform, ensuring accuracy and repeatability.
  • Review and help document security posture recommendations, identifying improvement opportunities and tracking progress.
  • Collaborate with the Internal Security Services team to standardize audit checklists, templates, and documentation practices.
  • Escalate identified security gaps or inconsistencies to senior analysts with clear supporting evidence.
