IT & Productivity Engineer

Smartleaf•Boston, MA
•$100,000 - $150,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Smartleaf is hiring a productivity-focused technology professional to make the IT experience better for non-engineers. The role will establish and own internal IT and productivity as a primary function, with a flexible 50%–75% in-office presence at the company’s Boston headquarters. The position is expected to spend roughly 75% of its time building and improving systems and 25% providing support, with occasional periods of near-full-time support. The engineer will administer the productivity stack, including Google Workspace, Zoom, and related SaaS tools; manage vendor relationships from evaluation through renewal; improve onboarding and offboarding; oversee device provisioning and MDM; identify opportunities to automate manual work; and provide desktop support for macOS and Debian Linux environments and access management. The role may also assist the Operations team. Smartleaf prefers on-premises services where practical. The company is approaching 50 employees, primarily software and systems engineers, and this role will shape how its IT function works and affect employees’ day-to-day experience. Success in the first six months includes auditing tools, vendors, and access controls; documenting and prioritizing gaps; progressively handling more desktop support; documenting and improving onboarding and offboarding; completing MDM coverage; reviewing vendor contracts; launching self-service IT resources; automating at least two meaningful manual processes; and supporting an onboarding peak without significant issues. The role will work closely with the Operations team. Smartleaf offers the option to grow responsibilities and skills without requiring advancement into management; if the function grows to require additional staff, the employee may have the opportunity to manage them or remain an individual contributor. Compensation is $100,000–$150,000, depending on relevant experience. Smartleaf cannot provide visa sponsorship now or in the future; candidates must have current and ongoing U.S. work authorization without sponsorship.
