IT Operations Specialist

Ohio Valley ElectricSharonville, OH

About The Position

We are seeking an experienced and self-driven IT Operations Specialist to join our growing IT team at Ohio Valley Electrical Services. Operating across multiple divisions — including commercial and industrial electrical contracting, engineering, and panel fabrication — our IT environment is active, varied, and continues to evolve. This role works alongside an existing IT team member, collaborating day-to-day on both routine support and larger infrastructure and systems projects. We are looking for someone who brings genuine technical depth, takes initiative, and is comfortable owning their work without needing to be closely managed. Both team members report directly to the CFO and are equally invested in moving our technology environment forward.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred; equivalent hands-on experience will be considered.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in IT systems administration or a similar hands-on technical role.
  • Demonstrated expertise with the Microsoft 365 platform, including SharePoint, Entra ID, Intune, Teams, and Exchange Online.
  • Strong background in network infrastructure, including LAN/WAN, switching, routing, wireless systems, and VPN technologies.
  • Experience supporting remote or geographically distributed sites, including remote desktop and device management tools and the ability to resolve issues effectively without being on-site.
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and see tasks through to completion without close supervision.
  • Familiarity with IT operations in a construction, engineering, or trades-based industry is a plus.
  • Relevant certifications preferred (e.g., Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert, CompTIA Network+/Security+, CCNA, or equivalent).
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration, including Entra ID identity management, Intune device management, SharePoint, and Teams governance.
  • Proficiency in network infrastructure, including routing, switching, VLANs, wireless networking, firewalls, and structured cabling considerations.
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, including endpoint protection, email security, MFA enforcement, and vulnerability management.
  • Experience with Windows Server environments, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and hybrid identity configurations.
  • Comfortable working across a broad ecosystem of business software spanning functions such as project management, human resources, training, and operations.
  • Experience identifying and addressing software sprawl, with an eye toward consolidating redundant tools and simplifying the overall technology environment.
  • Proficiency with remote monitoring and management (RMM) tools and remote desktop solutions, with demonstrated experience supporting users and systems at locations that are not within easy driving distance.
  • Familiarity with IT change management, documentation practices, and structured troubleshooting approaches.
  • Self-directed and motivated — able to identify what needs to be done, prioritize effectively, and follow through without requiring close direction.
  • Collaborative team player who works well alongside a peer, sharing workload across both reactive support and proactive project work.
  • Takes ownership of assigned areas and brings well-reasoned recommendations to leadership rather than waiting to be told what to do next.
  • Earns trust through consistent follow-through, clear communication, and sound judgment.
  • Comfortable balancing the demands of daily support tickets and longer-horizon infrastructure or systems projects simultaneously.
  • Clear written and verbal communicator, able to explain technical concepts to non-technical staff and leadership in plain language.
  • Builds positive working relationships across departments and divisions with varying levels of technical familiarity.
  • Maintains strong documentation habits for systems, configurations, and processes.
  • Adaptable and composed in a fast-paced, multi-division environment with shifting priorities.
