About The Position

Star Catcher Industries, Inc. is seeking a hands-on IT Infrastructure & Systems Engineer to support enterprise systems, network operations, cybersecurity tools, end-user technology, and IT projects. The role helps keep engineering, production, and corporate technology secure, reliable, and available across the company’s Jacksonville facilities, including clean rooms, optical labs, and machine shops. This role combines systems administration, network operations, escalated technical support, security monitoring, and hands-on delivery of IT projects. The engineer works within established technical priorities and project plans to implement improvements, resolve complex issues, maintain dependable infrastructure, and support cybersecurity requirements in a hardware engineering environment. Routine operational changes must stay within explicitly delegated authority and established procedures; changes outside that scope require approval. This is a 100% on-site position supporting three offices located within a few miles of one another. Local travel between offices is required, and occasional after-hours maintenance or emergency support may be needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Typically 3–5 years of hands-on experience in systems administration, network support, infrastructure operations, or enterprise IT support.
  • Practical experience troubleshooting switches, firewalls, wireless networks, VLANs, DNS/DHCP, VPNs, and common connectivity issues; familiarity with routing and network security fundamentals.
  • Working knowledge of Windows administration, endpoint management, identity and access management, Linux basics, and virtualization or cloud systems; ability to diagnose and resolve cross-platform issues.
  • Ability to create, test, troubleshoot, and document scripts that automate recurring IT tasks using an appropriate scripting language.
  • Experience using endpoint security tools, reviewing alerts and logs, and following documented response procedures.
  • U.S. Person status is required due to access to export-controlled data (ITAR/EAR). A security clearance is not required.
  • Ability to work on-site in Jacksonville, Florida, and travel locally between three offices.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in engineering, manufacturing, or regulated environments.
  • Experience with Google Cloud administration and Microsoft Azure.
  • Prior defense-industry experience or familiarity with NIST SP 800-171, CMMC, or ITAR/EAR environments.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent practical networking experience.
  • CompTIA Security+ or Network+ certification.
  • Relevant Microsoft, Google Workspace, Linux, or endpoint-management certifications.
  • Relevant cloud or cybersecurity operations certification.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot switches, firewalls, routers, VPNs, and wireless access points across company facilities.
  • Monitor network health, latency, bandwidth, and uptime; investigate connectivity issues and assist with network improvements, redundancy, and failover testing.
  • Support physical servers, SAN/NAS storage, racks, cabling, and related infrastructure; maintain accurate configurations and escalate design decisions as appropriate.
  • Administer user accounts, access permissions, MFA, SSO, Google Workspace, and other identity or productivity systems used by the company.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot Windows and Linux systems, virtualization platforms, and cloud-hosted services; assist with upgrades, migrations, and routine maintenance.
  • Manage endpoint configurations, patching, application deployment, and encryption using approved endpoint-management tools; resolve complex support tickets and coordinate with IT support staff.
  • Develop, test, and maintain scripts and automation for system administration, software deployment, monitoring, and recurring operational tasks.
  • Operate and maintain assigned security tools and technical safeguards; investigate alerts, document findings, escalate potential incidents, and perform approved remediation steps.
  • Assist with network segmentation, access controls, system hardening, and collection of technical evidence supporting NIST SP 800-171, CMMC, and applicable defense requirements.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot EDR, logging/SIEM, firewall policies, and other security technologies in coordination with IT leadership.
  • Maintain and test approved backup and recovery processes for critical systems and data; assist with disaster recovery and business continuity exercises.
  • Investigate systems, network, and endpoint incidents; support incident response by capturing logs, documenting actions, restoring service, and escalating issues promptly.
  • Maintain system documentation, network diagrams, operating procedures, asset records, and technical handoff notes.
  • Complete assigned infrastructure, systems, security, and workplace-technology projects, including deployments, upgrades, migrations, and process improvements.
  • Coordinate project tasks, perform testing, document changes, communicate progress and blockers, and provide handoff information to IT leadership and support teams.
  • Coordinate with technology vendors on support cases, troubleshooting, equipment repairs or replacements, and implementation activities.
  • As assigned, assist with engineering applications, specialized workstations, and lab or production computers, with the support scope jointly defined by IT leadership and Engineering.
