About The Position

The Ironworker position works as a member of a crew to raise, place, and unite girders, columns, and other structural-steel members to form completed structures and frameworks. This is a non-exempt role that reports to the Foreman, with assigned duties checked frequently according to specific procedures.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent
  • One (1) to four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level)
  • Knowledge of ironworker tools and how to use them
  • Rigging skills including wire rope slings
  • Post offer drug / alcohol screen, physical evaluation, and signed acceptance of the company Drug, Alcohol and Contraband Policy
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace

Nice To Haves

  • Some job sites may require NCCER certification

Responsibilities

  • Works as a member of a crew to raise, place and unite girders, columns and other structural-steel members to form completed structures and frameworks.
  • Off loads deliveries of structural material from the fabricator.
  • Sets up and breaks down hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural-steel members.
  • Fastens steel members to cable of hoist.
  • Signals worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel member.
  • Guides member or rides on member in order to guide it into position.
  • Pulls or pries steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device.
  • Forces members into final position.
  • Aligns holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member.
  • Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of members.
  • Bolts aligned members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted.
  • Cuts steel members to make alterations.
  • Performs additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
  • Complies with company and client job site safety requirements.
