About The Position

Turner Industries is seeking an experienced Ironworker for Capital work in Old Ocean, TX. Relocation and per diem are not available for this role; candidates must be local to the area. This is a non-exempt role that reports to the Foreman. The Ironworker position works as a member of a crew to raise, place and unite girders, columns and other structural-steel members to form completed structures and frameworks. Assigned duties are according to specific procedures, and work is checked frequently.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent
  • One (1) to four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level)
  • Knowledge of ironworker tools and how to use them
  • Rigging skills including wire rope slings
  • Must pass pre-employment background check, health/drug screening
  • Written pre-employment qualification test
  • Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation
  • Job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.)
  • Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.)
  • Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace

Nice To Haves

  • NCCER certification is highly preferred
  • Some job sites may require NCCER certification

Responsibilities

  • Off loads deliveries of structural material from the fabricator.
  • Sets up and breaks down hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural-steel members.
  • Fastens steel members to cable of hoist.
  • Signals worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel member.
  • Guides member or rides on member in order to guide it into position.
  • Pulls or pries steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device.
  • Forces members into final position.
  • Aligns holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member.
  • Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of members.
  • Bolts aligned members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted.
  • Cuts steel members to make alterations.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
