About The Position

The Iron Operator works as part of a team in an industrial laundry facility and is responsible for the safe, expeditious, and accurate handling of merchandise into and/or out of the facility. The role involves staging and feeding merchandise into an ironer, receiving and folding merchandise, inspecting items for quality, verifying quantities, bundling items, and placing bundles in storage carts. The position is based at the Springfield, Illinois facility and is designated for the first shift.

Requirements

• Ability to understand required training and written and verbal instructions.
• Working knowledge of basic math skills.
• Good verbal and/or written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to meet the attendance schedule.
• Ability to work a shift schedule that may include weekends.
• Ability to work overtime as needed.
• Ability to perform repetitive motions throughout an entire shift.
• Ability to bend, reach, pull, twist, and lift.
• Ability to use hands for grasping and other manipulations.
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods.
• Ability to push carts weighing approximately 300 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Stage and feed merchandise such as towels, napkins, tablecloths, and aprons onto the ironer to reduce wrinkling and tangling.
• Receive and fold merchandise from the ironer.
• Identify and segregate merchandise that does not meet specified quality standards, including items with rips, tears, holes, or stains.
• Verify merchandise quantities, bundle merchandise by type, and place bundles in the correct storage carts.
• Maneuver full and empty carts.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment and observe best practices in production activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
