About The Position

The Ohio Greenhouse Company, a high-tech fresh produce greenhouse in Wapakoneta, Ohio, and a member of the Mastronardi Group of Companies, is seeking an IPM Scout. This hands-on role monitors the crop and carries out instructions from the grower, supporting crop growing and maintenance, spraying, and integrated pest management (IPM). The position monitors pests, diseases, pollination, and crop data; manages insect traps and beneficial insects; follows IPM protocols; and prepares reports for management. It also supports greenhouse cleanliness, food safety, and other departments as needed. Training in pest and disease identification will be provided.

Requirements

Willingness to learn; training in pest and disease identification will be provided.
Pest and disease identification skills.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Reliable, flexible, and respectful of others.
Ability to work as a team player.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to withstand periods of high heat and humidity.
Ability to work extra hours as needed to complete the weekly scouting and beneficial-insect program.
Availability to work six days per week during the busy season, including weekends and a couple of weeknights for evening sprays.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience in a greenhouse or produce environment.
Basic knowledge of insects and pests.
Spanish language skills.

Responsibilities

Monitor and scout for pests and diseases in the greenhouse daily.
Detect and identify pests and diseases early.
Maintain insect traps in designated greenhouse areas and conduct weekly insect trap counts.
Manage and distribute beneficial insects or mites according to leadership instructions.
Follow IPM protocols for pest and disease management.
Compile IPM and conventional reports for management review.
Monitor pollination levels and coordinate weekly beehive introductions.
Verify trends in pest and disease infestations.
Support other departments as needed.
Record and verify variety data.
Maintain cleanliness, organization, and compliance with food safety policies and procedures in the greenhouse.
