About The Position

An overview of our current understanding of the process of economic development. Students are introduced to key facts about developing economies. Theoretical arguments and models that are intended to explain those facts are examined, as well as empirical evidence regarding the success of specific development policies. The objective is for students to gain a better understanding of some of the main challenges faced by developing countries today. Topics may include poverty, inequality, education, institutions, financial markets, growth, gender issues, trade, conflict, environment and natural resources, and development aid.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in Economics or Master's degree in economics.
  • Recent professional experience as an economist related to the focus of the course in the public, para-public or private sector (must be demonstrated).
  • Competence in English (language of instruction).

Nice To Haves

  • An acceptable level of education and/or experience could be viewed as being equivalent to the educational required and/or demonstrated experience.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Introduction to Development Economics (ECO2117 Section A00) during the Fall 2026 semester.
  • Provide an overview of the process of economic development, including key facts about developing economies.
  • Examine theoretical arguments and models explaining development facts.
  • Analyze empirical evidence on the success of development policies.
  • Facilitate student understanding of challenges faced by developing countries.
  • Cover topics such as poverty, inequality, education, institutions, financial markets, growth, gender issues, trade, conflict, environment and natural resources, and development aid.
