About The Position

Kaweah Health is seeking a dedicated Interpreter to facilitate communication between patients, families, and healthcare providers. This role is crucial in ensuring understanding and effective communication for patients with limited English proficiency. The Interpreter will work within a dynamic healthcare environment, upholding professional standards and contributing to patient satisfaction and care.

Requirements

Bilingual in Spanish
Successful completion of the Language Resource Assistant (LRA) testing at a Clinical level (administered during interview).
One year of interpretation experience or enrollment in an Interpreter training program.
Computer skills
Customer service crisis training strongly recommended
Excellent communication skills, tact, stress management skills, and the ability to relate well with diverse personalities and cultures.

Nice To Haves

High School diploma or equivalent
One year of healthcare experience with the major emphasis of job duties focused on customer service, performance improvement, training or educating others.

Responsibilities

Provides system-wide foreign language interpretation (verbal) to enable understanding and successful communication between KH's patients/families with limited English proficiency (LEP) and KH's provider and staff.
Demonstrates operational knowledge of and adherence to the interpreter standards of practice and code of ethics.
Documents required information and data accurately and in a timely manner.
Supports the Interpreter Services program at KH through working constructively in a team, participating in program functions, and performing other programmatic tasks as requested by the program manager.
Recognizes and responds quickly to emergency situations.
Greets the public and provides information as requested.
Provides information as appropriate to patients, their families and visitors.
Demonstrates knowledge of all services provided by the KH as well as the location.
Must be able to give clear instructions.
Demonstrates the ability to use computer systems effectively.
Coordinates customer service initiatives to ensure satisfaction through prospective, concurrent, and retrospective methods.
Facilitates resolution of patient and customer complaints in accordance with Kaweah Health policy.
Interprets over the phone as needed (if assigned as Lahu Interpreter).
Translates documents from English to Lahu (if assigned as Lahu Interpreter).
Tracks and maintains language statistics and develops interpretation devices usage report (if assigned as Lahu Interpreter).
Enters Language Resource Assistant interpretation logs into department database (if assigned as Lahu Interpreter).
Maintains Language Resource Assistant intranet site (if assigned as Lahu Interpreter).
Occasionally enters interpretation requests to create daily schedule (if assigned as Lahu Interpreter).
Tracks departmental invoices and creates reports (if assigned as Lahu Interpreter).
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area.
Performs other duties as assigned.
