This role provides accurate and effective interpretation and translation services for Limited English speaking patients, their families, and staff. The Medical Interpreter will facilitate communication via phone, in person, or in writing, and will also translate written documents, correspondence, and brochures. Additionally, the role assists clinic staff by providing translated test results and in-basket messages. The position also involves customer service duties, including greeting and directing patients and visitors, and handling telephone calls professionally. Registration and scheduling tasks include gathering and verifying patient demographic and insurance information, scheduling tests and procedures, ensuring understanding and signing of consent forms, transcribing and scanning practitioner orders, verifying insurance benefits, educating patients on benefits, assisting with financial counseling, obtaining patient information from other offices, and completing all related paperwork. The role also requires answering patient questions and directing them to the appropriate resources. Basic performance criteria include demonstrating hospital standards of behavior, adhering to policies and procedures, maintaining reliable attendance, keeping licenses and certifications current, practicing knowledge of HIPAA and other regulatory agencies, completing annual education and competency requirements, and understanding compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs.
