About The Position

This is an independent contractor self-employment position with a flexible work schedule. The interpreter provides interpreting services primarily in healthcare settings, with job sites mainly in Sacramento, Yolo, and Placer counties. Assignment volume depends on requests for the interpreter’s languages and qualifications.

Requirements

• Fluency in the target language(s).
• Experience performing interpreting work accurately, completely, and clearly in medical, legal, and other types of interpretation.
• Ability to interact with and relate to non-English-speaking people from any background and culture.
• A combination of formal training and/or relevant experience.
• Possession of, or willingness to obtain, medical clearances, including vaccination/immunization records, and background clearances as needed.
• Possession of a valid California license.
• Access to a cell phone.
• Access to a computer and/or smartphone.

Responsibilities

• Provide interpreting services primarily in healthcare settings.
• Orally interpret information from the target language into English and from English into the target language.
• Interpret accurately, completely, and clearly, maintaining the greatest possible fidelity to the spirit and letter of the original communication.
• Meet the communication needs of the general public, medical staff, the community, governmental agencies, and internal committees.
