About The Position

TekSynap is seeking IT interns to support the Cybersecurity area for the summer of 2026. This is an opportunity for current college students interested in a career in government contracting with a fast-growing company. Interns will work hands-on with real cybersecurity tools, learn about endpoint protection and security monitoring, and support monthly system updates. The role provides exposure to security and IT frameworks like ISO 27001, ISO 20000, ISO 22301, ISO 28000, and CMMC Level 2. Interns will also gain understanding of security controls, audit processes, and assist with incident response, threat briefings, and SOC operations. Hands-on learning activities include tabletop exercises, phishing simulations, and vulnerability reviews. All interns must be within local commuting distance to Reston, VA and be available for at least 10 weeks.   • Ability to obtain a Security Clearance

Responsibilities

  • Work hands-on with real cybersecurity tools used in production environments.
  • Learn how endpoint protection and security monitoring tools like Microsoft Defender, SentinelOne, and Microsoft Secure Score are used in day-to-day operations.
  • Help support monthly system updates (Patch Tuesday) by assisting with coordination, testing, and validation.
  • Build an understanding of how cybersecurity supports business requirements and compliance standards.
  • Get exposure to widely used security and IT frameworks such as ISO 27001, ISO 20000, ISO 22301, ISO 28000, and CMMC Level 2.
  • Learn why security controls exist and how everyday tasks help organizations pass audits and stay compliant.
  • Observe and assist with incident response activities, threat briefings, and Security Operations Center (SOC) operations.
  • Take part in hands-on learning activities such as tabletop exercises, phishing simulations, and vulnerability reviews.
