About The Position

The International Pharmacy Intern role is for a foreign graduate of a non-US-accredited pharmacy school who has passed the FPGEE and TOEFL and is eligible to complete required US internship hours. Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the intern contributes to a safe, effective retail pharmacy environment and provides patient care while developing skills in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education. The mixed-modality learning plan builds on the intern’s pharmacy education. The required internship must be completed within 18 months, and pharmacist licensure exams and processes must be completed within 120 days after the required US internship hours are finished. The role includes customer service, pharmacy operations, regulatory compliance, inventory and workflow management, and support for patient-care programs. Duties include processing prescriptions, supporting dispensing and prescription review under pharmacist supervision, assisting customers, maintaining confidentiality, coordinating with healthcare professionals, and helping train and develop pharmacy support staff. Final prescription verification is excluded from workflow management responsibilities. The intern must obtain pharmacist licensure in the state where the position is based within 120 days of completing US internship hours. Failure to complete the internship within 18 months or obtain licensure as prescribed results in removal from the role and separation of employment. Once state regulations are met, interns are expected to immunize as an essential pharmacist function.
